At 6:01 p.m., the National Weather Service (NWS) in Abilene/San Angelo issued a crucial weather statement in effect until 6:45 p.m. residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
Doppler radar, as reported by the NWS, is currently tracking potent thunderstorms along a line extending from near Noodle to the vicinity of Wingate. These storms are rapidly advancing eastward at a speed of 45 mph.
Accompanying these storms, the NWS notes wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph, coupled with pea-size hail. Residents are advised that these strong winds have the potential to down tree limbs and propel unsecured objects, posing a risk of minor damage to vegetation due to hail.
Communities in the path of these storms include Abilene, Clyde, Baird, Blackwell, Wylie, Nolan, Merkel, Tye, Tuscola, Hawley, Buffalo Gap, Trent, Lawn, Novice, Noodle, Bradshaw, Caps, Hylton, Wingate, and Nugent. Additionally, travelers along Interstate 20 between mile markers 257 and 308 should exercise caution.
For those currently outdoors, it is highly recommended to seek shelter immediately.
It is crucial to note that a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for the Big Country region through midnight. Residents are urged to stay vigilant and stay tuned to local weather updates during this period.
Your safety is our priority, and staying informed is the key to navigating through these weather conditions.
